Snowed In....Again

What a snowy winter, eh?
We had plans to celebrate Christmas with RJ's parents this weekend, but it has been postponed for the 2nd time. I'm excited though...we're doing it next weekend instead and it might be close to 30 degrees. Woo-Hoo!

The other day at Wal-Mart I scored some gingerbread houses for $1. You just can't pass up that kind of cheap entertainment. So we did one this morning.

And I tried to be clever, but the frosting is too runny.
Speaking of clever, Henry told me I was clever yesterday. He's been saying some crazy, funny stuff lately.

"snowed in again"

I'm not feeling motivated to do much today, but yesterday I did a painting for my mother-in-law. She had given me a piece of fabric from her kitchen curtains...about a year and a half ago...and I'm just now getting this done. Hope she likes it! I think it looks totally like a painting for a mother-in-law. Don't you want one for your mother-in-law?
{wink}

We're trying a little potty training here today. Really, I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm just throwing a few things together that I've heard or read somewhere. Lots of crackers and drinks. Setting the timer and sitting on the potty every 15 minutes. A little reward and pep talk for trying. Results? He really doesn't "go" that often. He was so excited to put on his Thomas undies and did a little dance saying "they feel so good! they feel so good!". He ran down to show Harper and he seemed so proud. Then about 10 minutes later he had his first accident and freaked him out. Big time. Got cleaned up and changed and then tried again, but he didn't have to go the rest of the morning and now he's napping. I think I'll have to go get some lemonade tonight with my Walgreen's gift card.
What is your best tip for potty training? I honestly don't know if he's ready yet...he's not too interested and isn't bothered by his diapers, but I think it's for sure time to give it a try.

Hope you're all enjoying your snowed in day!

You did that painting in a DAY? Wowsa!

I watched a really good video on potty training awhile back and saved the link: http://vimeo.com/7643151

If you've ever heard of the book Babywise, this is produced by the same people. Good luck!

No potty advice here! After being through it twice with a great deal of trouble and turmoil each time, all I'll say is I think it's a GREAT sign that he cared that his underwear were wet. That's huge! Good luck!

Kaeden was potty trained a little before he was 2 and a half. He was really easy for the most part. I just put a pullup on him and literally said to him every 10 minutes, "Now remember, if you have to go potty, if you feel like you have to go, go in the potty ok?" and he was like, OK!!!! So, he would start to go a little bit and stop and run into the bathroom, and then he just quit doing that and would just run into the bathroom and go when he felt he had to. It took about a week, and then I put him in underwear and the kid never had a peeing accident. BUT he absolutely hated to poop in the potty.....so he would sometimes go in his sleep in his pullup because I was still putting that on him when he slept. Very annoying. I basically had to force him to poop on the potty and not until just recently - like in the last few months - he has just gotten over that.

I probably shouldn't qualify to give advice since my 2 1/2 year old is still in diapers too.... but that is really just my fault for being to lazy. But I'll tell you that I think it's great that Henry was bothered by wetting his underwear. That's totally how Addie got trained. I had tried pull-ups and they just felt like another diaper on her so she would just go in it and not care. But as soon as I just put panties on her she HATED going in them and was potty-trained within a week. So if I can just find a free week to do that with Millie...

Oh and the painting - adorable. I'm so lucky to have such a talented friend. We had a new couple over tonight for dinner and she commented on my lovely dining room walls. :)

Good luck....we have tried to "potty train our children" and you know it just hasn't worked. So we wait until we KNOW they are ready- as in they ask to go potty themselves. Then just go with it. When they ask enough times to not really potty in the diaper- we give them undies and go for it. So no real tips. We just wait.

No snow here, but just a little further north there is...and there is a freeze advisory here- which for where we live is a HUGE deal. Too funny. If they think there could even be a few flakes of snow- EVERYTHING is canceled. In fact I believe they are canceling school today or tomorrow because of the "cold". He he he- we don't worry because we homeschool. :)

Drew was potty trained around 2 1/2and Reed is there right now, he turned 2 in October. The only thing that has worked with me is lots and lots of "treats". If they go pee in the potty they get candy! If they pee in their pull-up or underwear, they don't get any. My boys LOVE candy though, not sure if that'll work with Henry!! =) Also, with Drew I read somewhere and tried the food color trick. I put a couple drops of food coloring in the toilet and he thought it was so cool to pee on it and see what color it turned. For example blue food colorng turns a weird green color, etc. Drew LOVED it and couldn't wait to potty!! Good luck! =)
